Pantai Hospital Batu Pahat GP Symposium 2026: Dr Low Han Nee to Moderate Paediatrics Panel on “Digital Childhood”
Children today are growing up in a world where screens, gaming, social media and digital communication are part of everyday life. Alongside these changes, healthcare professionals are increasingly considering how a child’s physical growth, development, behaviour, nutrition, sleep and emotional wellbeing can interact with their digital environment.
On Saturday, 26 September 2026, Dr Low Han Nee, General Paediatrician, will participate in Pantai Hospital Batu Pahat GP Symposium 2026 – “Cracking Cases, Creating Cures” as the moderator of Paediatrics Panel Discussion 1.
The session, titled:
“Digital Childhood: When Growth, Screens, Emotions & Development Collide”
will bring together healthcare professionals from different disciplines to explore several practical, case-based scenarios involving children and adolescents.
The symposium will be held at The Katerina Hotel, Batu Pahat, Johor, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on 26 September 2026.

A Multidisciplinary Conversation About Children in the Digital Age
Children’s health does not always fit neatly into a single category.
A concern about speech may occur alongside screen exposure, feeding difficulties or growth concerns. Questions about attention may also involve sleep, gaming habits, nutrition and weight. During adolescence, social media, body image and changes in eating or weight may intersect with emotional and mental wellbeing.
This is why the upcoming paediatrics session adopts a multidisciplinary, case-based approach rather than looking at each concern in isolation.
Dr Low Han Nee will moderate the discussion together with three invited panelists representing complementary areas of healthcare:
Dr Athirah
Family Medicine Specialist
Klinik Kesihatan Batu Pahat
Dr Joanne Low
Developmental Paediatrician
Hospital Melaka
Dr Maryam Amaran
Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail
Bringing these different perspectives together provides an opportunity for participating healthcare professionals to discuss how physical health, development, behaviour and emotional wellbeing may overlap in real-world paediatric care.

Three Paediatric Case Topics
The Paediatrics Panel Discussion will explore three case-based topics.
1. “He Learns Everything from Screens — So Why Isn’t He Talking?”
The first case will consider a situation where screen exposure, feeding, growth faltering and developmental concerns intersect.
Rather than assuming that one factor alone explains a child’s difficulty, the discussion highlights the importance of looking at a child’s overall developmental and health picture.
2. “He Can Game for Two Hours — So Can He Really Have ADHD?”
The second case will explore the relationship between gaming, attention, sleep, nutrition and weight.
A child’s ability to remain engaged with a preferred activity such as gaming does not, by itself, answer whether ADHD is present or absent. ADHD assessment considers a broader and persistent pattern of symptoms, how they affect daily functioning, and whether difficulties occur across relevant settings.
The upcoming panel will approach this scenario from several clinical perspectives.
3. “She Says She’s Fine — But What Are We Missing?”
The third case turns towards adolescence, exploring circumstances where social media, body image, weight loss and adolescent mental health may overlap.
Adolescence brings significant physical, emotional and social changes. Digital environments can add another layer to these experiences, making communication and appropriate assessment especially important when there are concerns about a teenager’s wellbeing.
The three cases will be followed by a Q&A session, giving participants an opportunity to further engage with the panel.

Looking Forward to the Discussion
Digital technology is now woven into childhood and adolescence. The aim is therefore not simply to ask whether screens or gaming are “good” or “bad,” but to understand each child within the wider context of growth, development, nutrition, sleep, behaviour, family life and emotional wellbeing.
Dr Low Han Nee looks forward to moderating this multidisciplinary discussion and exchanging perspectives with fellow healthcare professionals at the Pantai Hospital Batu Pahat GP Symposium 2026.
For parents, the themes also serve as a useful reminder: when there are concerns about a child’s speech, development, growth, attention, eating, sleep, behaviour or emotional wellbeing, it is important to consider the whole child, rather than focusing on a single symptom or digital habit.
Which aspect of today’s “digital childhood” do you think is most challenging for families — screen time, gaming, sleep, attention, social media, or maintaining healthy routines?
